Overview

Architected a horizontally scalable cloud infrastructure for Fantasy King handling 100,000+ concurrent contest entries with sub-second leaderboard updates across variable network conditions. The platform's performance directly enabled its strategic acqui-hire by Kingmakers and multi-market expansion.

The Challenges

Real-time sports gaming platforms experience extreme traffic spikes during live match windows — delivering simultaneous leaderboard updates, live match data feeds, and real-time chat to 100,000+ concurrent users across variable network infrastructure demanded elastic cloud architecture that could scale instantly without performance degradation.

Launching across multiple markets required cloud infrastructure flexible enough to accommodate localised payment gateways, per-country regulatory configurations, and network variability — all from a single unified platform without rebuilding per market.

Solution

Architected a scalable AWS cloud infrastructure using containerised microservices with Docker — enabling independent scaling of real-time match feeds, leaderboard processing, wallet transactions, and chat services during peak match windows without cascading failures across the platform.

Engineered a horizontally scalable real-time layer using Socket.io backed by a Redis pub/sub adapter — distributing WebSocket connections across multiple server instances without session affinity, so live leaderboards, match feeds, and chat scaled linearly with concurrent users rather than being bound to a single instance. Redis and the horizontal cluster are as critical to this architecture as Socket.io itself.

Built a multi-market deployment architecture supporting localised payment gateway integrations for Paystack and M-Pesa alongside per-country regulatory configurations — enabling multiple market launches from the same infrastructure foundation without separate deployments.

Implemented FinOps governance from day one — rightsizing compute resources to match contest traffic patterns with automated scaling policies and cost monitoring ensuring infrastructure spend tracked revenue rather than running ahead of it.

Value Delivered

#01

Platform scales elastically from baseline traffic to 100,000+ concurrent contest entries during live match windows — no manual intervention or pre-provisioning required ahead of peak periods.

#02

Real-time leaderboard updates, live match feeds, and community chat delivered simultaneously at full load — sub-second data freshness maintained through a horizontally distributed WebSocket layer, not a single-instance bottleneck.

#03

Multi-market expansion achieved from a single infrastructure layer — localised configurations per market rather than parallel deployments, compressing time-to-market significantly.

#04

Cloud costs governed to actual contest traffic from day one — infrastructure spend aligned to revenue patterns rather than over-provisioned for theoretical peak.

Client Testimonial

"Abdeali is a rare find - extremely strong technical capabilities coupled with business and start-up experience. He was able to quickly understand the product we wanted developed, and after this, he gave us a detailed roadmap of how we were going to get there. The end product looked incredible, and functioned just like we had planned. Throughout the journey Abdeali communicated updates to us frequently, and was very transparent about what was happening on the development side. If we had any questions or concerns - Abdeali would make a plan to make himself available and address these. It has been a pleasure working with Abdeali and his team to get our MVP developed, and I am looking forward to working with them to take our product to the next level. If you have a tech idea - look no further than SiyaTech Ventures, they come at my highest recommendation."
